Build your own DOS bootable Rescue CD

If you want to download a working CD go here for the Public AntiVirus CD

RescueME for Dos, this CD will allow you to remove Virus's from FAT/FAT32/NTFS volumes, you may also be able to use USB devices from DOS - see bottom for more information.

RescueME4Dos contains all the necessary tools to create a bootable CD which will remove virus's from any FAT/FAT32/NTFS partition.  Included in the download are mkisofs.exe and SCDWriter.

Run sophos.bat, McAfeeupdate.bat, F-Prot.bat these bat scripts will download all the necessary files, each bat file is located in the F-Prot, McAfee and Sophos folders respectively.

If you just want a floppy dos boot image with CD-Rom driver and UDMA driver download Miniboot.zip

If you need to access a NTFS volume download NTFS4Dos which is free for personal use, this is a NTFS driver for Dos.  This will give you full read/write access to a NTFS drive which normally isn't possible in Dos.  Install and create the NTFS4Dos floppy boot disk.

Copy LICENSE.DAT and NTFS4DOS.exe into the main folder which contains the files build.bat, mkisofs.exe, BOOTABLE.img etc....

The following DOS scanners are free for personal use

McAfee    F-Prot (works with the NTFS driver)    Sophos

Sophos Download:    Sophos Dos Scanner       Latest Definitions

F-Prot:    F-Prot 4 Dos    Macro Virus Updates    Virus Updates

Run f-prot.bat, sophos.bat, mcafeeupate.bat to download the virus scanners and definition files.

Then run build.bat to create the ISO (CD image file)

Then run build.bat to create the ISO (CD image file)
Use smallcd writer to burn the image to CD.
Disc
Record ISO image to DISC (NB if you select any other option the CD will not work)

You will now be able to boot your PC with your Rescue CD. Please ensure that your bios supports booting from a CD, and that the CD is above the Hard Drive in the boot order.

To run the software from dos you will need to type the following at the command prompt.

For FAT/FAT32
For this example it will be D: will be the CD rom, although this letter will vary depending on your number of CD-Rom's and hard drive partitions.

For F-Prot type:
d:\fprot\F-PROT.EXE

For McAfee type
d:\McAfee\Scanpm.exe /adl /sub /clean /del

/adl scans all local drives
/sub will scan all subdirectories
/clean will clean any infected files
/del will delete any files that can't be cleaned

If you need the command parameters listing for McAfee type /help

Omitted or add any commands that you want.

For Sophos
d:\Sohpos\sweep.exe -all -di -remove

-all scans all files
-di will disinfect any infected files
-remove will remove any files that can't be disinfected

If you need the command parameters for Sohpos type /?

Omitted or add any commands that you want.

For NTFS Volumes
Type D:\NTFS4DOS.exe d:\fprot\F-PROT.EXE

If you wish to build your own simple dos boot CD with a Anti Virus scanner please follow these simply steps, this will give you read/write access to FAT/FAT32/NTFS drives.  Since I've started experimenting with this I've so far only managed to get f-prot to work successfully.  If you want all your ntfs drives to show up create a MS Dos boot floppy.

To create a msdos boot floppy in XP do the following.
Right click on start
Explore
Right click on the A: drive
Format
Tick quick format and create MS-Dos start up disk
Then click start

Download the dos CD-Rom and UDMA driver.
Copy them to the floppy

Open the following 2 files on the floppy in notepad and add these lines:

Add the following line to autoexec.bat

SHSUCDX.EXE /D:mscd001

Add the following lines to Config.sys

DEVICEHIGH=UDMA2.SYS
DEVICE=OAKCDROM.SYS /D:mscd001

This will allow dos to read your drives faster and give you access to your CD-Rom(‘s)

Use FloppyImage to create a image of the floppy, use the uncompressed file option and rename from .img to .ima

You will also need a CD Recording software that will create a bootable CD, CD BurnerXP and Deepburner are freeware and will create bootable CD's.  Alternative paid for softeware is Nero which will create a bootable CD.

For CD BurnerXP Pro
Select Data CD
Disc
Boot Options
Tick Make Disc Bootable
Use the browse button to locate miniboot.ima
Click OK
Now drag the folders AntiVir and Fprot onto the New_Compilation section.
Now burn your CD.

To scan a NTFS volume with Fprot type:

C:\Fprot\ntfs4dos.exe f-prot.exe

If C: is your CD-Rom drive, if it's D,E,F etc... it would become D:\Fprot\ntfs4dos.exe f-prot.exe

If it's a FAT/FAT32 drive all you need is C:\fprot\f-prot.exe

USB Devices

It may be possible to add USB storage devices to the boot floppy.  See the following sites for more information.
