Build your own RescueME CD

RescueME CD is for Dos, Win9x, Win NT, Win 2K, WinXP it will allow you to remove Virus's from FAT/FAT32/NTFS volumes and install various security software. The RescueME CD builder is a 1mb download.

Drag and drop the folder location of the extracted files to create your CD, avoid long file names and don't have spaces.

Install AVG, Avast or AntiVir from the CD.

Install Spybot, Spyware Blaster and Adaware - download latest updates for Spybot and Adaware

Run McAfee from the CD Bart's PE McAfee Scan GUI is used.

Remove Virus's with AntiVir (Run AVWIN.EXE in Windows), Sophos (32bit for Windows and obviously the Dos program for Dos), Trend Mico's Sysclean (For use in Windows Only), McAfee (Run Scangui in Windows, use Scanpm.exe in Dos), F-Prot (Dos/9x only). Mwav (Windows only) is included as it's useful for advanced users how may want to manually remove infections.

RescueMECD contains all the necessary tools to create a bootable CD which will remove virus's from any FAT/FAT32/NTFS partition. Included in the download are mkisofs.exe and SCDWriter.

Once downloaded run ResCDBuild.bat to download all necessary files (NB this download process is only recommended for people with broadband connections, the end process will create a CD approx 180mb. Download.exe doesn't support resume, if your on dialup manually download the files you need), at the end of the download process it will build the ISO image for you, all you have to do then is burn the CD image file with SmallCDWriter (provided).

If you need to access a NTFS volume download NTFS4Dos which is free for personal use, this is a NTFS driver for Dos. This will give you full read/write access to a NTFS drive which normally isn't possible in Dos. Install and create the NTFS4Dos floppy boot disk.

Copy LICENSE.DAT and NTFS4DOS.exe into the main folder which contains the files build.bat, mkisofs.exe, BOOTABLE.img etc....

Use smallcd writer to burn the image to CD.

Record ISO image to DISC (NB if you select any other option the CD will not work)

You will now be able to boot your PC with your Rescue CD. Please ensure that your bios supports booting from a CD, and that the CD is above the Hard Drive in the boot order.

To run the software from dos you will need to type the following at the command prompt.

For FAT/FAT32
For this example it will be D: will be the CD rom, although this letter will vary depending on your number of CD-Rom's and hard drive partitions.

For F-Prot type:
d:\fprot\F-PROT.EXE

For McAfee type
d:\McAfee\Scanpm.exe /adl /sub /clean /del

/adl scans all local drives
/sub will scan all subdirectories
/clean will clean any infected files
/del will delete any files that can't be cleaned

-all scans all files
-di will disinfect any infected files
-remove will remove any files that can't be disinfected
